Each fall networks hurl their new shows at us en masse. We then begin the scramble to find out which shows have promise (Outsourced, Running Wilde) and those that are in desperate need of cancellation (Lone Star, The Gates). This week we'll feature Fox's new show Raising Hope.

Streaming Sundays - Halloween Unmasked

The history of Halloween spans all the way back to ancient Celts. It was migrated over to North America as immigrants began pouring into our borders in the early 20th century. It slowly began to gain popularity throughout the century. We all grew up Trick-or-Treating when we were little, and now we'll begin taking our own children door to door collecting candied goodies from all of the neighbors. 

Streaming Sundays - Steal This Movie (2000)

It's been a long time (91 days) since we've last posted a Streaming Sunday feature-length film. Well folks, that's because we're trying to stray away from copyright infringement and the 'stealing' of other people's works. We're attempting to go legit and stir clear of the piracy plaguing the internet today. Alas, we're going the safer and more respectable route of finding those movies that are posted free on reputable sources and websites.

So funny enough, our first movie is appropriately entitled, "Steal This Movie!" starring Vincent D'Onofrio as Abbie Hoffman, the well-known 1960's social and political activists that rustled the feathers of local, state and federal governments with the Yippies. Janeane Garafalo guests stars as Abbie's second wife Anita in this great counter-culture biopic. Also note that Michael Cera appears as Abbie's son america. (His name is purposely spelled with a lower case 'a')

The film takes it name from the guidebook to social activism, Steal This Book written by Abbie Hoffman in 1971. However the film takes basis from on several books including To America With Love: Letters from the Underground written by both Anita and Abbie Hoffman. You may recall the flag shirt wearing gentlemen whom introduces Forrest Gump to speak at the Vietnam protests at the Lincoln Memorial. That gentleman is someone portraying Abbie Hoffman as he lead the Vietnam protests in Washington, D.C.

Our favorite movie critics, the ever opinionated Chicago Tribune writer Michael Phillips and the NY Times' A.O. Scott compiled their Top Ten movie lists of the last ten years. Check out their choices for this past decade's best piece of cinematic art.

Streaming Sundays - Noel

This week's holiday movie is one of a completely different sort. If you love holiday movies because they are a non-stop barrage of cheerfulness, delight and uplifting stories than Noel is not for you. However, if you say that you dislike Christmastime or that this is one of your least favorite times of the year this movie is for you. This movie portrays the holiday season as many people see it a complex web of connections, dysfunctional families, past issues and sorrow. While many love the holidays because we're surrounded by those we love, there are many who don't have their family around due to broken relationships, personal loss, or a life in solitude. It is those stories that Noel takes a deeper look into.

Streaming Sunday - National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

Like clockwork, every Christmastime we all break out our favorite holiday movies, snuggle together under a warm blanket, crank up the heat and relax on the couch. For each of us those movies can differ greatly, however there are a handful of classics that the majority of us can't get enough of. You could be helping Ralphie decode Little Orphan Annie's message, aiding Kevin in protecting his house against the 'Wet Bandits', or you're joining Tiny Tim in wishing, "Merry Christmas, Everyone!".  Either way we all love to throw on "A Christmas Story", "Home Alone", or one of eight versions of Charles Dickens' novel "A Christmas Carol".

Streaming Sunday - All About Steve

Sandra Bullock stars as quirky cruciverbalist (crossword puzzle writer) Mary Horowitz in the new movie All About Steve. She lives at home with Mom and Dad who continually put her on dead-end blind dates with their friend's sons, most of which are far less than stellar prospects. Enter Steve (Bradley Cooper), a National news cameraman who is good looking, smart, and witty. Only problem is, Steve thinks she's wacko, and ditches on their blind date without having driven even an inch towards dinner.

Now that I've provided you more backstory than I was provided prior to watching this film, I'll leave you to fend for yourself this last Saturday in November. (EEK! One more month before yet another year is gone!) Sideways' Thomas Haden Church co-stars and The Hangover's Kim Jeong also stars in this week's entry of All About Steve.

Streaming Sundays - Pirate Radio

Arguably one of the most advertised films of the years, Pirate Radio provides some harmless fun at the cinemaplex that hasn't been found at the box office in a couple years. Pirate Radio, or as it is known throughout the rest of the world, "The Boat That Rocked" provides a soundtrack of the most important record releases of the late 60's while fusing together laughter, camaraderie, and a unique sense of isolationism.

Streaming Sundays - Anvil! The Story of Anvil

This week's Streaming Sunday feature is a movie about heavy metal legends. No it's not the story of Cannibal Corpse, Metallica, Pantera, Megadeth or likely any metal band you can name off. It's the story of aging rockers Anvil. They hit it big for a split second during the 80's touring with bands like The Scorpions, Whitesnake, and Bon Jovi.

Well they haven't hit the big time since then and they've been hitting the road ever since. This is the story about playing music to play music NOT to make money. In fact on a lot of the band's former gigs THEY paid to travel there only to be shafted by the promoter after the show, receiving far less than promised. Their story is truly a story of friendship, passion and commitment.

Streaming Sundays - FX's The League

This past Thursday night the FX Network unveiled their all new series, "The League". The cast features a handful of recognizable comedians but is concocted by mostly unknown actors. The series is about a Fantasy Football league and the men who participate in it. It follows their lives and show hows Fantasy Football affects them in different ways. The first episode, 'The Draft' is about just that, their Fantasy Draft. This pilot episode hilariously follow five friends showing various degrees of devotion to their "League".

Steaming Sundays - Couples Retreat

In likely one of the most advertised movies of the year, hides a hilarious gem that is both romantic comedy, buddy flick, and picture perfect travel movie. The film was shot on-location in Bora Bora, French Polynesia at the St. Regis 100-villa resort. This ensemble cast includes; Vince Vaughn, Jason Bateman, Jon Favreau, Faizon Love, Kristin Davis, Kristen Bell, and Jean Reno.

This comedy is worth a look especially since you're not forking out anything but an hour and a half of your time. Check out this week's Streaming Sunday feature, Couples Retreat.

Streaming Sundays - The IT Crowd

The IT Crowd is a British comedy starring Chris O'Dowd, Richard Ayodade, and Katherine Parkinson on Channel 4 in the UK. The seasons are only six episodes long and it just finished up it's third season. If you have Netflix, you can watch all three seasons (1, 2, 3) streaming instantly.

Streaming Sundays - Terry Fator: Live in Las Vegas

The newest headliner on the Las Vegas Strip is the unbelievable ventriloquist Terry Fator. He was the winner of the second season of America's Got Talent in 2007. As a result he got the $1 million prize and was due to have a short stint in the Jubilee show at the Bally's Hotel in Las Vegas. Bally's pulled out of the deal at the last minute. He then scheduled two shows in October 2007 that sold-out almost immediately. He then had to add an addtional show in December to meet the overwhelming demand for his tickets.

The Las Vegas Hilton then resigned Terry to a five-month long, three shows a month headlining gig for the sum of $1.5 million. In March of 2008 Terry was a guest on the Oprah Winfrey show along with Simon Cowell. After his performance Simon Cowell referred to Terry as one of the, "two most talented people on the planet." As we all know that type of praise does not come easy from some like Simon Cowell.

In May 2008 Terry signed a $100 million, five-year deal to be the headliner at The Mirage casino/hotel in Las Vegas. Ever since he began his gig at The Mirage, Terry has received rave reviews as a performer on the Las Vegas Strip. He recently released a DVD featuring his many talents. Streaming Sundays - Beer Wars

This week on Streaming Sundays we really do have a special treat in store for you. Our feature this week is: BEER WARS. The documentary focuses in on the fight of small craft breweries to corner just a small percentage of a multi-billion dollar industry dominated by three major breweries. Bud, Coors, and Miller are practically all that most Americans know about that oft-drank elixir. Now, as never done before, these small breweries are NOT taking this fight lying down. Here is the movie synopsis:

This is another new section in the blog where every Sunday (I know, it's Monday) we'll embed a movie that is either still in the theaters or new to DVD on this blog.
