This year Guinness & Company brewery at St. James Gate in Dublin, Ireland turns 250 years old. In 1759 Arthur Guinness signed a 9,000 year lease on the unused St. James Gate Brewery and ten years later he exported his first barrels of Guinness beer.  Fast forward 250 years and you get to 2009 and the 250th celebration of Guinness.

Today, Guinness is owned by the corporate conglomerate Diageo. Diageo owns and operates some of the better known brands in alcoholic beverages. Some other brands that they run besides Guinness include: Harp, Red Stripe, Smithwick's, Johnnie Walker scotch whiskey, Ciroc & Ketel One vodkas, Gordon's gin, Captain Morgan rum,  Crown Royal Canadian whiskey, Don Julio & Jose Cuervo tequilas, and Goldschlager schnapps.

In celebration for their 250th Anniversary, Guinness has brewed up a special 250th Anniversary Stout. This smoother stout is considered to be more palatable than your normal Guinness Draught. Everyone, even those who claim to dislike 'the black stuff,' are encouraged to sample this wonderful nod to the brewing tradition of Guinness brew and Arthur Guinness himself. So pick yourself up some of the limited-edition 250th Anniversary Stout today!
